Volunteer Opportunities

There is a tremendous need for outdoor enthusiasts to help maintain urban parks and greenspaces throughout by:

  • Horticulture assistance – mulching, weeding, litter removal, varying tasks depending on season
  • Removing honeysuckle and other invasive plants
  • Trail maintenance
  • Removing and/or replacing ground cover
  • Planting flowers and trees

Each year thousands of volunteers participate in group projects that are vital to the preparation and maintenance of our parks. Groups of many sizes and abilities perform important conservation and beautification tasks that impact the work of our staff and help keep our Parks safe and beautiful! Examples of work include:

  • Invasive species removal
  • Trail clearance & maintenance
  • Mulching trees, beds & playgrounds
  • Planting
  • Construction of bridges, stairs and signage
  • Event assistance

Many Cincinnati traditions take place within Cincinnati Parks. Special destination spots such as Krohn Conservatory, Carol Ann’s Carousel, and events like summer camps and the Butterfly Show simply cannot happen without the support of volunteers. Whether you prefer working with our tropical plant collection, greeting the public, and working a craft table you will certainly find satisfaction and enjoyment! Available volunteer opportunities are:

Are you interested in supporting Cincinnati Parks, but prefer a clean, indoor more low key experience? Do you have a special skill set or talent to provide? CinyParks welcomes the enthusiasm and support of individuals that want to be a part of our leadership teams, help administratively, or lend a creative hand or trade.

Special Event Opportunities

National Days of Service and Community Driven Events

Cincinnati Parks hosts service events in parks citywide all year long. Much of the conservation work that we accomplish cannot happen without the dedication of community members and neighbors like you. Please check out our calendar listing for scheduled events. A website link is coming shortly to register online.

Butterfly Show Volunteers

The Butterfly Show could not happen without the tireless dedication of enthusiastic volunteers. Some plan special events, while many work during the show to ensure the USDA containment guidelines are upheld. This year we will need 750 volunteers to make the Butterfly Show possible. If you are interested in volunteering at Krohn Conservatory contact Hannah Fancher by email or (513) 421-5707 with additional questions.

Mayor’s Corporate Challenge

Since its inception in 2007, thousands of employees from numerous companies have served our urban parks and greenspace areas as well as the downtown Cincinnati area, including Washington Park in Over-The-Rhine, the waterfront parks, Smale Riverfront Park, Eden Park and more! Volunteers come from corporations such as GE Aviation, Duke Energy, PNC Bank, Kao USA Inc, Fifth Third Bank, U.S. Bank, and many, many more to dig in, clean up downtown, and make a big difference! If your corporation is interested in supporting Cincinnati Parks, please contact Christyl Johnson Roberts, our Volunteer Coordinator.
