Summer Day Camps Preview

Cincinnati Family Best Nature Day Camps AwardIt may be January but all we can think about are SUMMER CAMPS! Cincinnati Parks Explore Nature! program was voted Best Nature Day Camps 4 years in a row. We offer camps for ages 3 – 14 years old so families can come back year after year.

Our 2019 camp themes include Harry Potter, Star Wars, Narnia, Outdoor Skills, ART-rageous Camp, and Nature Camps in the Parks.

Daily hikes, games, live animal encounters, experiments and make & take projects keep campers active all day. Campers also benefit from new friendships, increased confidence, self-esteem and hands-on fun.

Please note, new this year there are two registration opening times:
  • 12pm: Preschool Discovery Mornings in the Parks, California Woods camps and Trailside Nature Center camps will be open for registration.
  • 12:30pm: NatureCamps in the Parks and LaBoiteaux Woods camps will be open for registration (If your camp doesn’t appear refresh browser).

2019 Nature Camps in the Parks

Children ages 5 (entering 1st grade) – 12
9:30 am – 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday
Fee: $75.00 per camper per week

Held entirely outdoors, campers participate in active fun centered around “ADAPTATIONS”. Children are divided into groups by age. Campers look forward to the Friday cookout! To allow room for everyone at French & Ault Parks, please only register for one session at either of these parks with no more than 2 camps overall from the list below:

Stanbery Park (Mt. Washington) | June 10 – 14

French Park (Amberley Village) | June 17 – 21, July 1 – 5 (no camp on Thurs., 7/4), July 15 – 19

Ault Park (Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout) | June 24 – 28, July 8 – 12, July 22 – 26

Mt. Airy Forest, Stone Steps Shelter (Mt. Airy) | July 29 – August 2


2019 Discovery Mornings in Parks

Children ages 3 1/2 – 5 
9:45 am – 11:45 am, Monday – Friday
Fee: $55.00 per camper per week

Each day features a different aspect of the “OPPOSITES” theme. Campers enjoy hikes, active games, crafts, songs, live animals and more! As much as possible, children are grouped by age. Children must have turned 3 by Jan. 2019, be toilet trained & are pre-Kdg. Program repeats; please register for one session only.

Trailside Nature Center

GRAND! Camp (grandparents & grandkids ages 3-4)

10:00 am – 1:00 pm, July 1 – 3 (Mon. – Wed.)
Fee: $75.00 (one fee for both grandparent and grandchild registration)

Grandparents and grandkids share in the fun of special crafts, hikes and other bonding activities.

Preschool Camps (ages 4 – 5)

10:00 am – 1:00 pm, June 17 – 21 (Mon. – Fri.) – Theme: Habitat Hunt
10:00 am – 1:00 pm, July 15 – 19 (Mon. – Fri.) – Theme: Movers and Shakers
Fee: $75.00 per camper

From fins to feathers and visits to a variety of habitats, all activities will appeal to a preschooler’s sense of wonder. Different activities each week. Attend both sessions for loads of fun!

Urban Safari Camp (ages 6 – 8)

9:30 am – 3:00 pm, Session 1: June 10 – 14 (Mon. – Fri.) 
9:30 am – 3:00 pm, Session 2: July 29 – August 2 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $75.00 per camper

Through the use of experiments, hikes, games, crafts and other hands-on activities, campers become junior field naturalists and explore the natural world.

Stars Wars Camp (ages 9 – 12)

9:30 am – 3:00 pm, June 24 – 28 (Mon. – Fri.)
9:30 am – 3:00 pm, July 8 – 12 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $85.00 per camper

Camp programming repeats; Register for only one.
Has the Force awakened in you? Themed crafts & games, singular-star solar system space knowledge, hikes, create your own Droid, work on your light saber skills and train to become a Jedi. WOW!

Mission to Mars (ages 9 – 12)

9:30 am – 3:00 pm, July 22 – 26 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $75.00 per camper

Based out of the Wolff Planetarium, campers embark on a journey to the Red Planet…who knows what exciting discoveries or dangers there are to be faced! Outdoor fun with games and hikes keeps campers active.


California Woods Nature Center

Preschool Nature Camp (ages 4 – 5, preKdg)

10:00 am – 1:00 pm, June 24 – 28 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $75.00 per camper

Campers engage all 5 senses to experience and learn about “Shapes in Nature” each day. Hikes, crafts, stories and games make it fun daily! Pack a lunch.

Nature Detectives (ages 6 – 8, post Kindergarten)

9:30 am – 3:00 pm, Session 1: June 17 – 21 (Mon. – Fri.)
9:30 am – 3:00 pm, Session 2: July 15 – 19 (Mon. – Fri.)
Camp programming repeats; Register for only one.
Fee: $80.00 per camper

Unlock a new nature mystery each day by exploring the forest, meadow & creek. Special animal encounter visit. Campers enjoy a scavenger hunt & grill out on Friday!

Creek Week (ages 7 – 9)

9:30 am – 3:00 pm, Session 1: June 10 – 14 (Mon. – Fri.)
9:30 am – 3:00 pm, Session 2: July 1 – 5 (Mon. – Fri.) (no camp Thurs., 7/4)
Camp programming repeats; Register for only one.
Fee: $65.00 per camper; reduced fee with no camp on 7/4.

Water based fun and education as campers explore Lick Run Creek. Learn about water quality, water cycle, find fossils and play games. Prepare to get WET!

Nature Art and Theater (ages 7 – 9)

9:30 am -*3:00 pm, July 8 – 12 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $80.00 per camper

Campers create costumes and practice for the Friday nature-themed performance. Outdoor fun too! *Early dismissal Friday after all performances end.

Outdoor Skills Camps (ages 10 – 14)

*9:30am – 3:00pm (Mon. – Wed.), Session 1: July 22 – 26
*9:30am – 3:00pm (Mon. – Wed.), Session 2: July 29 – August 2
Fee: $80.00 per camper

*Overnight on Thursdays start at 7 pm and end at 9 am on Fridays.
Fire and shelter building, foil cooking, canoeing and outdoor camping are just a few of the survival skills gained. Canoeing day will be offsite. Full camp schedule provided the week before.


LaBoiteaux Woods Nature Center

Winnie -the-Pooh Preschool (age 3½ – 5, preKdg)

10:00 am – 1:00 pm; July 1 – 3 (Mon. – Wed.)
Fee: $50 per camper

Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and other characters are the themes for stories, crafts, hikes & engaging activities.

Fee: $75 per camper

A mix of art projects, games & outdoor fun create a truly unique way to be creative. Art Show on Friday.

Narnia: Lion, Witch…Wardrobe (ages 6 – 12, post Kindergarten)

9:30am – 3:00pm, July 29 – August 2 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $80 per camper

Visit Narnia through hikes, games, animal encounters and other hands-on activities based on the 1st book.

*NEW* Back to Nature Camp (age 6 post Kdg – 12)

9:30am – 3:00pm, June 24 – 28 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $75 per camper

Unplug and explore the preserve’s habitats from fossils to local wildlife. Daily crafts & games round out the fun!

Harry Potter Wizard Camps (ages 7 – 12)

9:30 am – 3:00 pm, June 10 – 14 (Mon. – Fri.)
9:30 am – 3:00 pm, June 17 – 21 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $85 per camper
Camp programming repeats; Register for only one.

Be sorted into a camp house, play quidditch, learn potions, spells & more magical fun based on the series.

ART-Topia Camp (ages 8 – 10)

9:30am – 3:00pm, July 15 – 19 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $80 per camper

Explore your wild side through art projects, hikes, games and animal encounters. Art Show on Friday.

ART-Rageous Camp (ages 11 – 14)

9:30am – 3:00pm, July 8 – 12 (Mon. – Fri.)
Fee: $80 per camper

For serious artists; extended time spent on projects plus active games & outdoor fun create a unique way to stretch camper’s artistic abilities. Art Show on Friday.


Campers should be able to:

  • Stay with their assigned group with minimal reminders
  • Explore the natural world and move themselves along trails, over uneven ground, up and down hills, and across bridges and streams.
  • Interact with their peers in group games and activities and be able to maintain appropriate self-control in social situations.
  • Cincinnati Parks has a zero tolerance policy on drugs and violence.
