Mt Airy Forest Bike Trail Progress

Newly Constructed Drainage Area in Mt Airy Forest on Bike Trail

Mt Airy Forest Bike Trail Progress

In August 2017, the Park Board approved entering into an agreement with the Cincinnati Off-Road Trail Alliance (CORA), to build, operate and maintain a multi-use trail in Mt. Airy Forest as a pilot project. The location is on West Fork Road just inside the entrance to the park near Montana Avenue. The first section of trail has been completed while additional phases of trail construction underway.

The first 1.4 miles of trail have been completed. The trail was built to meet national and Parks standards, with the trail following contours and avoiding wild flowers and large trees. A fence and gated trailhead have been constructed. Signs with trail rules will be approved by Parks and posted at the trailhead prior to the trail opening.

This first phase of trail is well done and represents 1,038 hours of volunteer labor carried out by approximately 80 individuals. Work carried out includes clearing approximately six acres of honeysuckle; trail renovation and construction, which includes new stone drainage crossings, water diverters, and stone retaining walls; removal of ash trees; and a gate and fencing at the trailhead.

Cincinnati Parks is excited to be partnering with CORA who have proven to be a fantastic partner. The completed trail segment is extremely well built and well laid out. In addition to the many hours of volunteer work, contributors to the project include REI, Team Cycling & Fitness, Spun Bicycles and numerous individual donors.
