A New Garden in Eden Park

Eden Park features many beautiful statues and memorials including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial which was dedicated in April of 1984. The memorial includes a statue of a soldier looking down at the ground. On his left, a second solider stands with his left foot resting on a stump, with his hand resting on the other soldier’s shoulder. Thanks to a generous and anonymous donation made to the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, a memorial garden will be added to this special place within Eden Park. The donation will be used for the purchase benches, plants, a concrete walkway, gravel bed, boulders, edging and annual maintenance of the garden.

The Vietnam Memorial Garden will create a serene space for quiet contemplation. Once completed, it will feature a variety of plants of different textures, colors and fragrances, seating, an accessible pathway through the garden and an overall design which creates a sense of safety and comfort. While the garden will serve the general public and different communities of people, it is particularly designed to serve those who have suffered with PTSD.

In mid-December, Cincinnati Parks staff began installing many features of the project. The landscaping consists of young dormant perennials which will flourish in the spring. The garden is expected to be completed early in 2019.

The site is cleared for the new pathway installation. The Accessible walkway is complete near the memorial statue. Staff install plants at the memorial garden Staff work on the memorial garden landscaping.
