The 2018 Butterfly Show “The Butterflies of Madagascar” celebrates the exotic biomes of this unique African country. Giant Baobab trees, remarkable stone forests, and illustrious lemurs of Madagascar set the stage for the thousand s of bright, beautiful butterflies flying amidst the striking collection of fiery orange bidens, vivid red celosia, purple salvia, and punches of lime green ipomoea! Help us celebrate the vibrant life of Madagascar, the “Island of Rainbows.” Madagascar is located off the south east coast of Africa and has been called an “Island of Rainbows.” Imagine you are traveling to Madagascar by walking through Krohn! The different horticultural exhibit areas in Krohn reflect the different Madagascar landforms, climate, and flora / fauna. Follow icons on the map and find the butterflies fluttering around the showroom .

Family Nights: Butterfly Pajama Parties
May 2 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Wear your pajamas and visit the butterflies at night for fun family activities, snacks and crafts for all ages! Join us for a Lemur Dance Party where you can shake your lemur tail. Enjoy story night under the Baobab tree and make your own butterfly garden with your own host plant to take home. Possible surprise visits by costumed characters from the Cincinnati Children’s Theatre.

In addition to the seasonal floral display, we invite everyone to enjoy the beauty of our rainforest under glass.  The mist system in the Palm House will provide a unique cloud forest experience.

Krohn showcases an amazing variety of more than 3,500 plant species from around the world, including desert plants, tropical specimens, Bonsai trees, rare orchids, carnivorous plants and exotic fruit trees.
