Magic Forest Halloween Hikes

Time:                           Hikes start at 7:00 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Hikes leave at 15 minute intervals. Each lasts one hour.

Fee:                                $6.00 per person. There is a $3.00 administrative fee per transaction; so sign up the full troop and family members during one transaction.
This is a family friendly and Halloween – alternative fun event!  Girls and family members walk through a pumpkin-lit trail meeting costumed characters from nature and history. This is a non-scary holiday walk best suited to girls aged 5-10 years.

Holiday Crafts Workshop

Fee:                               $6.00 per scout and non-leader adults.  There is a $3.00 administrative fee per troop.  Non-refundable, pre-payment required.

Bring the scout troop to enjoy crafts made with natural materials as we warm up inside the nature center by the fire.  Nature provides all the media necessary for creating amazing craft; you provide the creative touches.  Please choose only one session to attend.  Registration and payment due by 12/13

Maple in Mt. Airy

Date:                            Saturday, March 3, 2018
Time:                            Seating starts at 9:00 a.m. and go every half hour until noon. Entire program  lasts 1 ¼ hours.

Fee:                                $8.00 per person. There is a $3.00 administrative fee per transaction; so sign up the full troop and family members during one transaction.
This event is perfect for scouts, organized groups and families of all ages!  A free pancake breakfast is provided in Oak Ridge Lodge before your adventure begins.  After breakfast, participants head outside to visit 4 stations and meet with sugar makers from the past and present.  Discover how trees produce the sugar at the Maple Tree station and stop by the Evaporator station to discover how we turn the sap into syrup.  The Native American station will delight you with small samples of pure maple sugar while the Pioneers will warm your mouth with a taste of maple tea.  Yum….lots of tasting!  The program including breakfast takes approximately 1.25 hours.

 

 

General Programming Information    

Let us help you plan the perfect scouting program for your girls! Program areas include Nature Study, Ecology, Environment, Science, Local History, Outdoor Skills, and more. We can tailor any program to meet your badge requirements. Requirements for many nature-oriented Journeys, Brownie Try-Its, Junior Badges and Cadets/Senior Interest Projects can be fulfilled.

Programs require prepayment.  Payment can be made with a money order, cashier check or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). Personal checks and troop checks are not accepted. Please make money orders / cashier checks payable to “Treasurer, City of Cincinnati”. Credit card information can be given to the Naturalist staff scheduling the program with you.

Nature Centers also have opportunities for community service projects for troops of all ages and can work with Gold Award candidates on projects. No fee is charged for these projects.

Weekday After-School Programs at Our Nature Centers or Neighborhood Parks:  Up to two hours in length depending on arrival time. Fee: $5 per scout & chaperones; primary leaders are FREE. An additional fee may be charged for program/craft materials. Minimum fee equivalent to 15 scouts/paying adults. Fee does not include patches/badges.

Weekday After-School Outreach Programs at Your Facility:
Depending on the facility resources, we may not be able to complete badge activities such as hiking, habitat investigations, etc. Activity details should be discussed with the Naturalist before confirming the program. Within City Limits:  Up to two hours in length depending on starting time. Fee: $75 for the first 30 – 60 minute program. $25 for additional programs (same topic, location, day).  An additional fee may be charged for program/craft materials. Fee does not include patches/badges.
Out of  City Limits:  Beyond the information stated above an additional fee may be charged for mileage.

Half or Full Day Programs at Our Nature Centers: From 3 – 5  hours in length depending on arrival time.
Fee: $15 – 25 per scout & chaperones; primary leaders are FREE. Minimum fee equivalent to 15 scouts/paying adults. Fee does not include patches/badges. These programs can be scheduled on weekdays during school breaks (but not on national holidays). Weekends are limited due to public programs and special events; call our main office at 321-6070 for staff availability.

Many public weekend programs are related to badge work but are best suited for registration by individual girls & their families. All require pre-registration and may have a fee. Check our website at www.cincinnatiparks.com for the current list of programs.

    Special Program:  Planetarium shows. All programs are designed to help meet Girl Scout badge requirements for all levels.

  • Volunteering Opportunities are available for troops or individuals at special events.
  • Hiking Trails: at regional parks and the Nature Centers. Trails range from the very short up to 10+ mile LaTrainee de L’Explorateurs in Mt. Airy.
  • Outdoor Scouting Overnights: at regional parks and the Nature Centers.

Learn the history and mystery of Ohio’s first sweet product, maple sugar! We tap maple trees, collect sap, and learn how to turn it into that sweet stuff we all know so well. Meet other troops and ages along the way! After all that work, come inside and enjoy some pancakes, sausage and real maple syrup. The Wolff Planetarium, the oldest planetarium west of the Allegheny’s, will be the focus of this exciting program as we learn about constellations, stars, planets and more.  Scouts participate in hands-on activities, learn how to use star maps and find their way by using the North Star.  Space is limited.

Step back in time and walk part of a documented route used by escaping slaves during the 1850’s.  Discover if you have what it takes to attain your own freedom during a simulation activity and other hands-on activities.  A local focus brings the braoder history of the Underground Railroad to life.  Dress in layers for indoor and outdoor activities.  Registration and payment due by 2/14

Paid registrations are accepted in the order they are received by mail. All programs are pre-paid and non -refundable. Fees do not include patches/badges unless mentioned.
We allow free chaperones according to the G.S. Guidelines: Two leaders are free for a troop of up to 12 Brownies. An additional free adult is allowed for every 6 additional Brownies.  Juniors may have two free leaders for 16 girls and an additional adult for every 8 additional Juniors. Other adults are required to pay; all adults are expected to participate. We accept cash, money orders, cashier checks or credit cards (Visa or Mastercard). Personal checks and troop checks are no longer accepted. Daisies and their ladies learn about themselves and the great planet we live on, Earth. Girls earn the “The Blue Bucket Award”, “The Firefly Award” and “The Clover Award”. The overnight includes a night hike and indoor/outdoor activities. Girls end the day creating their “Clover Project”.  Patches are not provided. Troops must bring their own food.
It’s Your Planet, Love It!: WOW! Wonders of Water Brownie Journey Overnight

Get ready to dive in and learn about the substance that makes our Earth unique, Water! Girls earn the “Love Water”, “Save Water” and “Share Water” awards. We also get the scouts and leaders started to earn their “WOW” award on their own. This overnight also includes a night hike and activities inside and outside focusing on the wonders of water.  Patches are not provided.  Troops must bring their own food.

Survivor Girls! For Brownies Overnight

Have fun and learn everything a kid needs to know about outdoor skills and fire building!  Girls become expert outdoor explorers as we learn all about what it takes to survive in the woods, safely and comfortably. Together we practice useful skills such as, shelter building, using a map and compass, knot tying, basic first aid, as well as knife safety. Our full schedule includes nighttime and daytime activities such as hikes, games, crafts and skill building. Special patches will be provided representing the different skills learned.  Troops must bring their own food.

It’s Your Planet, Love It!: GET MOVING! Junior Journey Overnight

Fee:                 $25.00 per scout and extra non-leader adults. Non-refundable, pre-payment required.
Girls energized about this journey. Scouts earn the Energize Award and Investigate Award. We also help them get started with their leaders on a project to earn the Innovate award. This overnight features different energy experiments indoors and out. Patches not provided.  Troops must bring their own food.

Survivor Girls! For Juniors Overnight
