Title: Sayler Park Farmers' Market
When: Oct - 08 - 2013 04:00pm - 07:00pm
Location: Sayler Park
Description: Spring is here and in Sayler Park it means the return of the weekly farmers market at the city park.

Several vendors kicked off the fifth season Tuesday, May 7, to offer their goods to market patrons.

Sitting in a lawn chair in the park, Jay Bosse, 41, had a spread of hastas and hybrid roses he grew himself.

“Every rose is one-of-a-kind,” he said explaining the process of pollinating roses.

The Miami Heights resident has been attending the farmers market for three years. He said it’s the friendships he’s made that keep him coming back.

“I enjoy the small town feel,” he said.

Also vending for three years at the park is Vonnie Kramer, a Delhi Township resident who sells baked goods and reusable storage bags.

“Everybody here is so nice,” she said. “From the customers, to co-sellers to the people who run it, everybody is great and very-welcoming.”

Customer B.J. Haller, 71, of Sayler Park said she likes being able to support the vendors.

“I see more and more organic homemade things being a trend,” she said. “I like interacting with the people and learning about what they’re selling.”

What makes the Sayler Park Farmers Market unique is that vendors don’t have to pay anything to set up. Market representative Linda Girten, 57, said that all vendors must grow or make things themselves in order to sell it at the market. There are no pop-up tents allowed, she said.

Among the items for sale are baked goods, canned sauces, honey, plants and later in the season fruits, vegetables and ice cream. The Sayler Park Historical Society will be there and the Sayler Park Auto Racing Club II will make appearances with race cars, stock cars and other racing vehicles throughout the season.

The farmers market is open from 4 to 7 p.m. each Tuesdays through October. Vendors set up along the Parkland Avenue side of the city park. For more information, call coordinator Bobbie Kellar at 374-8878.
